Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm
Pay: £98–£120 per day, dependent on experience

Make a real difference, one pupil at a time

Protocol Education are looking for a caring and committed 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant to support a pupil within a specialist SEND setting in Ferryhill.

This role is centred around building trust, providing consistency and helping a pupil feel confident within their school environment. You'll work closely with the pupil throughout the day, supporting their learning, communication, emotional regulation and independence.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Support access to lessons and classroom activities.
  • Assist with transitions and daily routines.
  • Encourage communication and social interaction.
  • Support emotional and sensory regulation.
  • Follow individualised support strategies.
  • Promote independence and positive behaviour.
  • Support the pupil during break and lunchtime.
  • Encourage appropriate interaction with peers.
  • Provide reassurance when the pupil is experiencing difficulties.
  • Record and share relevant observations with the wider team.
  • Work alongside the class teacher and SEND staff.

The ideal candidate will understand the importance of patience, consistency and trust when supporting an autistic pupil.

Experience working with Autism is desirable, although transferable experience within care, residential support, psychology, youth work or similar settings will also be considered.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
