Protocol Education is working with a number of welcoming and inclusive primary schools across Bristol that are looking for multilingual Teaching Assistants to support pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL).

If you speak a language in addition to English, your skills could have a powerful impact on a child's educational journey. From helping new arrivals settle into school life to supporting learning in the classroom, you'll play an important role in ensuring children feel confident, supported, and able to thrive.

The Role

As a Multilingual Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) across primary age groups
  • Assist children in accessing learning and developing their confidence in English
  • Deliver small-group interventions and 1:1 support where needed
  • Help pupils settle into school routines and build positive relationships
  • Work closely with class teachers to adapt learning and communication strategies
  • Encourage participation, independence, and engagement in lessons
  • Support communication between schools, children, and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Promote an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and understood

About You

We're looking for individuals who:

  • Speak one or more languages in addition to English
  • Enjoy working with children and supporting their development
  • Are patient, approachable, and confident communicators
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils and families from a variety of backgrounds
  • Create calm, encouraging, and inclusive learning environments
  • Have experience with children, education, youth work, community projects, or transferable people-focused skills
  • Are interested in developing a career within education

No previous school experience is essential. A positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a passion for helping children succeed are what matter most.

What We Need to Clear You

To get you registered and ready to start, we'll need:

  • A valid passport or proof of your right to work in the UK
  • Two proofs of address, such as a driving licence, utility bill, council tax statement, or P45/P60
  • A CV covering the last 10 years of work and/or education history, with any gaps explained
  • Two years of references, including childcare, community, or employment references where applicable
  • An enhanced DBS check (we can support with this if required)
  • An overseas police check if you have lived abroad for 3 months or more within the last 5 years
