How leave pay is calculated
Leave is counted in calendar days and paid on basic salary plus housing allowance.
- Daily rate
- Monthly salary divided by 30 calendar days. On AED 9,000 a day of leave is worth AED 300.
- Entitlement
- 30 calendar days a year after one year of service, 2 days per month between six months and a year. Public holidays falling within the leave are counted as leave unless the contract says otherwise.
- On leaving
- Unused leave is encashed at the basic salary for the days accrued, capped at two years' entitlement, as part of the end-of-service settlement.

How much leave salary do I get on leaving?
- The days accrued up to the leaving date minus the days taken, each paid at the basic daily rate (basic salary ÷ 30).
Is leave salary paid before the leave?
- The employer must pay the leave salary before the leave starts if the employee asks; otherwise it comes with the normal payroll.
Can the employer refuse to carry leave over?
- Employers may set the leave dates with at least one month's notice. Leave accrues in the year it is earned and can be carried over or encashed only with the employer's consent.
